This Association was founded on 5th October, 1877, at the conclusion of the International Conference of Librarians held at the London Institution, under the presidency of the late Mr. J. Winter Jones, then principal librarian of the British Museum. Its objects are: (_a_) to encourage and aid by every means in its power the establishment of new libraries; (_b_) to endeavour to secure better legislation for rate-supported libraries; (_c_) to unite all persons engaged or interested in library work, for the purpose of promoting the best possible administration of libraries; and (_d_) to encourage bibliographical research.…
